The updates on COVID-19 in Korea
Additional information on the newly confirmed case -
○ As of 16 February, 2020, there have been 29 confirmed cases, 7,313 cases turned out to be negative, and 577 cases currently being tested.

○ The newly confirmed case(#29) is a Korean male, born in 1938. He visited the emergency center at Korea University Anam Hospital for discomfort in the chest area. He was initially suspected of myocardial infarction. But since his radiography showed a sign of pneumonia, he was tested for COVID-19 and confirmed positive on 16 February.
- He is currently in isolation at the national designated isolation hospital. Although he has fever and symptoms of pneumonia, he is in stable condition. He stated that he has not been abroad since December 2019. Epidemiological investigation on the source, chain of transmission and the contacts is underway.
○ KCDC released the results of epidemiological analysis on the confirmed cases. (29th case is not included.) Out of 28 cases, 15(53.5%) are male and 13(46.4%) are female. Eight(28.6%) are in their 50’s. Korean nationals are 22(78.6%) and Chinese nationals are 6(21.4%). The initial symptoms are mild or non-specific; Fever or sore throat are the most common, but 18 cases showed pneumonia on their radiology.
- Secondary cases were 10 who are either family or acquaintances of the confirmed cases. The average incubation period is 4.1 days. No transmission from asymptomatic case has been identified.
