* Figures may change based on findings from ongoing local epidemiological investigation efforts.
○ Of the 45 new cases, 5 were imported cases and 40 were locally transmitted cases.
- Of the 5 imported cases, 2 are from America, 2 from Pakistan, 1 from India.
○ Related to the Coupang logistics center cluster in Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi Province, 2 additional cases were confirmed from testing for release from self-quarantine. In total, 146* cases have been confirmed.
* 83 workers of the logistics center; 63 contacts / Gyeonggi=66, Incheon=56, Seoul=24
○ Related to the newly planted churches in the Seoul Metropolitan Region, 2 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 94* cases have been confirmed.
* Related to church = 33; Contacts = 61 / Incheon = 49; Seoul = 27; Gyeonggi = 18
○ Related to Richway in Gwangak-gu, Seoul, 116* cases have been confirmed in total to date. Epidemiological investigation revealed that a case confirmed on 3 June related to Jesus Malsseum Silcheon Church had visited Richway on 21 May. The 9 cases related to Jesus Malsseum Silcheon Church have been reclassified and are now included in the Richway cluster.
* Visitors = 39; Contacts = 77 / Seoul = 64; Gyeonggi = 30; Incheon = 18; Chungnam = 2; Gangwon = 2
○ Related to the sport facility in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, 6 additional cases were confirmed. The new cases are contacts of visitor(s) to the table tennis facility. In total, 60* cases have been confirmed.
* Related to the table tennis facility = 34; Related to Big Tree Church = 26
○ Related to Defense Security Support Command in Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi Province, 2 additional cases were confirmed. The new cases are family members of confirmed case(s). In total, 7 cases have been confirmed.
□ Korea National Institute of Health will distribute COVID-19 positive respiratory specimens to support development of diagnostic devices for COVID-19 and COVID-19-related research.
- KCDC has collected about 1,700 leftover COVID-19 positive respiratory specimens from testing laboratories and medical institutions. KNIH will distribute them through application and review process.
* 1,184 throat swab (NPS/OPS) samples, 519 sputum samples
- Applications will accepted from 12 June (Friday) to 19 June (Friday) at the National Biobank of Korea website (http://www.nih.go.kr/biobank). Distribution committee will review the application documents* to select the projects to receive the samples.
* Biological Resource Use Plan Proposal, Research Plan Proposal for IRB Review or Clinical Research Application for MFDS Approval, etc.
- Eligible entities include in vitro medical device development companies, medical institutions, clinical testing institutions, and national/public research institutions and must have research facilities suitable for the purpose of specimen use.
□ Since COVID-19 symptoms are often mild and non-specific, many infected persons go unnoticed and are confirmed after having already transmitted onward to other people. KCDC advises high precaution.
- Since COVID-19 outbreak can occur from any venue under crowded, confined, and close-contact environment, residents of the Seoul Metropolitan Region are advised to avoid club meetings, religious small group meetings, and other gatherings taking place in poorly ventilated enclosed areas and to practice hand washing, mask wearing, and physical distancing in daily life.
- Anyone who has come in close contact with a large number of unspecified persons is advised to dial 1339 or contact a local public health center and get tested at a screening clinic if fever or respiratory symptoms appear.
- Testing is advised especially if 2 or more people in a household or a social group with recent physical contact develop symptoms.
○ Recently, daytime temperature is frequently rising above 30 degrees. People aged 65 or older and people with chronic medical condition are not only COVID-19 high risk groups but also vulnerable to falling ill from heat waves. People belonging to such groups are advised to avoid going outside during daytime where there is high chance of exposure to other people and temperature is high.
- Social gatherings that take place in an enclosed space with poor ventilation or without windows should be avoided.
- If such an occasion is unavoidable, sharing meals and singing should be avoided. Masks should be worn and frequent hand washing or sanitizing should be practiced.
- KCDC advises elderly people take good care of any chronic medical conditions they have. They are encouraged to utilize various means of consulting with healthcare professional regularly, including over-the-phone consultations. When visiting a clinic or hospital, a facemask should be worn.
- Regular exercise is also important, including light home exercises and stretching as well as taking a walk regularly in places and times with less foot traffic outside.
