** Figures may change based on findings from ongoing local epidemiological investigation efforts
○ KCDC stated that on the day of 3 July, 154 ships entered at 11 sea ports, and 108 ships (70%) have been subjected to on-board quarantine inspection,
- and from 6 July (Monday), KCDC will test all sailors getting off from the ship with the purpose of going out or at the end of a shift.
□ KCDC expressed gratitude for the total of 273 people who signed up to donate their plasma for the development of COVID-19 plasma therapy and encouraged more eligible people to participate.
○ Plasma therapy requires a large amount of blood as it involves formulating a concentrated form of the antibodies and immunoglobulin from the blood of people who have recovered from COVID-19.
○ People aged 18-64 who have been confirmed with COVID-19, fully recovered, discharged (released) from isolation (at least 14 days ago) are able to participate.
* Participating hospitals: Korea University Ansan Hospital, Keimyung Unviersity Dongsan Hospital, Kyungpook National University Hospital, Daegu Fatima Hospital / For inquiries, dial 1522-6487
□ As of 12:00 4 July, KCDC received requests for Remdesivir from 14 hospitals with 19 severe patients, and has finished distribution of the drug to all the patients.
□ Since it is difficult to wear masks at restaurants and infection can occur in close environments, KCDC requested public to refrain from indoor gatherings and comply with the following quarantine guidelines to prevent infection within restaurants;
○ Cancel or postpone non-essential meetings held indoors, such as restaurants.
○ When visiting a restaurant,
- Visits should avoid rush hours, hand washing and use of hand sanitizer should be practiced before meals,
- Masks should be worn before entering into the restaurant, as well as before and after the meal. When sharing dishes, tongs should be used and conversations should be avoided as much as possible during meals since that may spread droplets.
- When making or answering on a mobile phone inside a restaurant or other crowded indoor space, the call should be taken outside or with mask worn.
COVID-19 PREVENTION MEASURES IN RESTAURANTS - Avoid rush hours and minimize staying time - Sit as zigzag if possible or facing one direction - Observe personal hygiene regulations such as hand washing and use of hand sanitizer - Wear a mask before entering a restaurant, including before, and after having meals - Use individual utensils, glasses, and do not mix them - Use hand sanitizers or plastic gloves before and after each use of tongs, plates, and serving spoons |
□ In light of the recent spreading of COVID-19 through religious small group meetings and other events, KCDC urged public to take precaution over the weekend.
○ Religious events and small group meetings should be refrained, or switch to non-face-to-face methods,
○ And in case of an unavoidable on-site event, minimize the number of participants, put 2 meter distance between participants, wear masks all times, refrain from singing (which can cause respiratory droplets to move in air) and have instrumental music instead, and do not provide group meals or hold small group gatherings.
COVID-19 PREVENTION MEASURES IN RELIGIOUS FACILITIES - Use non-face-to-face, contactless methods to hold events such as online gathering - Avoid activities that make respiratory droplets move in air (such as singing, chanting, and shouting) - Disinfect and ventilate spaces before and after an event - Avoid providing group meals |
□ KCDC announced that the budget for strengthening R&D investment has been confirmed(191.6 billion won) at the 3rd revised supplementary budget and will be implemented to ensure development support measures of COVID-19 treatment and vaccines and to strengthen the capacity of Korea’s response to COVID19.
○ The strengthening R&D investment budget reflected in the 3rd revised supplementary budget will be used to;
- 1) strengthen the capacity of Korea’s COVID-19 response by localizing and upgrading diagnostic tools and other necessary equipments for COVID-19 response; 2) Support development of vaccine and treatment focusing on antibody, plasma treatment and 3 main vaccine platform technologies, by assisting entire cycle of clinical trials of vaccine developing companies.
- 3) expand functions of Public Vaccine Development Support Center for the establishment of research and production infrastructure, upgrade analysis technology, and establish a system for producing and utilizing genetic data for confirmed patients.
