Figures subject to correction based on findings from epidemiological investigations

The current state* of major local clusters as of today (as of 12:00, 7 August) are as follows:

* The specific figures below may differ from the daily reported statistics (which are based on figures as of 0:00 today) or figures disclosed by local municipalities due to factors such as report timing and differences in the time period considered

Related to a coffee shop in Gangnam-gu, Seoul City, and a restaurant in Yangjae-dong, Seoul City, 1 additional cases were confirmed while in quarantine. The new case is a family member of a previously confirmed case (restaurant owner). In total, 16* cases have been confirmed.

* Seoul = 3 (+1), Gyeonggi = 10 (Including 2 reported as Gyeongbuk), Gyeongbuk = 3

Related to the Rejoice (Gippeum) 153 Church in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, 7 (2 in quarantine, 5 through contact tracing) additional cases were confirmed. In total, 15* cases have been confirmed.

* Index case and family members = 5, church members = 3 (+1), coworkers = 6 (+5), acquaintance = 1 (+1)

The (presumed) location of infection acquisition of the 11 new imported cases are: Americas (4) (US 4), Africa (1) (Ethiopia 1), and Asia excluding China (6) (Iraq 3, Kazakhstan 1, Russia 1, Hong Kong 1).

1 additional sailor has been confirmed while in quarantine, regarding the ORANGE DREAM (Russian bulk carrier, total of 20 sailors) that has been docked at Incheon Harbor, since it entered the harbor on 26 July. In total, 2 (1 case confirmed on 26 July) cases have been confirmed.

KCDC analyzed COVID-19 transmission risk factors based on report made through to the Safety Sinmungo* e-Report, and stressed the importance of keeping COVID-19 prevention guidelines in the upcoming weekend.

* Reports related to COVID-19 guidelines can be made through the Sinmungo app (Android, iOS) or at www.safetyreport.go.kr

1,779 reports have been made during the month of July. Reports related to COVID-19 prevention guideline infractions at PC cafes (61.9%) and restaurants/cafes (11.1%) accounted for the majority of the reports.

- With the start of summer vacation and the holiday season, reports related to PC cafes* and restaurant/cafes** have increased in the second half of July.

* PC cafes, July reports: 1st week = 149, 2nd week = 264, 3rd week = 160, 4th week = 207, 5th week = 321

GUIDELINES FOR HEALTHY AND SAFE SCHOOL BREAKS

- 3 do’s:

Wear a mask when indoors or using public transportation, including in academies (hagwons)

* Completely cover your mouth and nose, do not touch the surface of your mask, wash your hands before and after putting on a mask

Use hand sanitizers or wash your hands often with soap and running water for more than 30 seconds

Maintain a 2m distance (1m minimum) from others

- 3 don’ts:

Do not go out if you feel sick, including when you have a fever or a cough

Do not visit closed, crowded, and close-contact settings (3C’s), such as PC cafes and singing rooms

Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands

In light of the recent damage and flooding caused by heavy rain, KCDC stressed the importance of safe water and food, handwashing, and personal hygiene to prevent infectious diseases.

Flooded areas are prone to outbreaks of waterborne or foodborne infectious diseases, such as bacterial dysentery, typhoid fever, and enterohemorrhagic E. coli, while increasing the risk of food poisoning.

- Only consume safe food and water (packaged water or boiled water), do not keep cooked food for a long time, and always maintain personal hygiene. Make sure that meals are cooked and prepared with the abovementioned guidelines in mind.

Flooded areas are also prone to outbreaks of contagious eye diseases (keratoconjunctivitis, acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis) and skin diseases.

- Wear long boots and waterproof garments when working in flooded areas, as contact with flood water may cause skin diseases.

- Wash parts of your skin that made contact with flood water with clean water. For those engaged in disaster recovery work, make sure to sufficiently hydrate and take breaks while working.

If working around standing water that is left after a typhoon or a flood, there is risk of contracting leptospirosis, which is transmitted through the infected urine of animals.

- While doing rice re-planting work, make sure to wear garments, boots, and rubber gloves that can protect your skin. If you experience symptoms (including fever) after working near standing water, visit your local hospital to see a doctor.

Mosquitos can quickly multiply in the rainy season, due to standing water and humid weather. Caution is advised against mosquito-borne infectious diseases (malaria, Japanese encephalitis).

- Standing water and other mosquito-friendly habitats should be removed. Refrain from going outdoors in the evening, take care not to get bitten by mosquitos, and visit your local hospital to see a doctor when you show symptoms (including fever).

In addition, those using temporary shelters for displaced people are advised to follow the COVID-19 prevention guidelines, including wearing a mask, washing your hands, and keeping a 2m distance from others.

Health Guidelines for the Rainy Season

The most important rule to follow is thoroughly washing your hands, as most waterborne infectious diseases and contagious eye diseases can be prevented by handwashing.

Safely preparing food is very important. Make sure to thoroughly heat food before consumption.

- Cooked food should not be stored for a long time.

- People with open wounds on their hands or diarrhea should not prepare food.

Wear protective garments, boots, and rubber gloves while re-planting rice.

Remove mosquito habitats and puddles around your house. Refrain from going outdoors at night, wear bright long-sleeve shirts and pants, use mosquito repellents, and take care not to get bitten by mosquitos.

If you have symptoms such as fever and diarrhea, it is highly important to see a doctor.

In light of the increased COVID-19 transmission occurring in weekend religious events, small-group meetings, and other religious activities, KCDC asked the public for extra caution during the upcoming weekend.

GUIDANCE FOR RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES

- Cancel weekend religious events, summer retreats, and other summer religious events that risk mass transmission, or conduct them in a non-face-to-face manner.

- If hosting such religious events, make sure to minimize attendees, maintain a 2m distance, replace singing with instrumental music, and ensure mask wearing.

- Avoid shared meals or small group meetings before and after a religious event.
