Updates on COVID-19 in Republic of Korea

□ As of 0:00, 12 August 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 14,714 (including 2,591 imported cases), of which 13,786 cases have been discharged from isolation. There are 35 new local cases, 19 new imported cases, and 0 new death.

□ The current state* of major local clusters as of today (as of 12:00, 12 August) are as follows:
* The specific figures below may differ from the daily reported statistics (which are based on figures as of 0:00 today) or figures disclosed by local municipalities due to factors such as report timing and differences in the time period considered
○ Related to Euncheon Convalescent Hospital in Gwangak-gu, Seoul City, 2 additional cases were confirmed. The new cases are an inpatient and the inpatient’s family member. In total, 6 cases have been confirmed.
○ Related to the Seoul regional Lotteria staff meeting, 6 additional cases were confirmed after the index case was confirmed on 11 August. In total, 7 cases have been confirmed.
- 19 Lotteria staff had a gathering on 6 August. Further investigation is underway.
- Risk factor: Gathering for an extended period of time; did not wear mask during gathering
○ Related to the Banseok Church in Pung-dong, Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, 1 additional case was confirmed. The new case is a spouse of a Namdaemun Market merchant. In total, 34 cases have been confirmed.
- In response to multiple cases found among Namdaemun Market merchants, Seoul City has set up a screening clinic at Namdaemun Market and testing people who had exposure.
○ Related to Junimui Saem Presbyterian Church in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi Province, 5 additional cases were confirmed while under quarantine. The new cases are 1 church member, 3 coworkers of church member, and 1 acquaintance of church member. In total, 17 cases have been confirmed.
○ Related to Daeji High School and Jukjeon High School in Gyeonggi Province, index case (Daeji High School student) was confirmed on 11 August and 4 additional cases subsequently have been confirmed. The new cases are 1 related to Daeji High School and 3 related to Jukjeon High School. In total, 5 cases have been confirmed.
- Regarding Daeji High School, 29 contacts (classmates and homeroom teacher) have been tested. No additional cases have been found as of today.
- Regarding Jukjeon High School, contact investigation and testing is underway.
- 3 students (index case and 2 Jukjeon High students) met and visited movie theater, PC cafe, coin singing room, restaurant, etc. during 9-10 August.
- The 2 cases who are students of Daeji High School are from the same class. The 3 cases who are Jukjeon High School students belong to different classes.
○ Related to Bukyung Health High School adult class, 1 additional case was confirmed while under quarantine. In total, 10 cases (6 students, 4 family members) have been confirmed. Investigation of contacts and chain of transmission is underway.
□ As of 0:00, 12 August, there were 19 imported cases, of which 8 were confirmed at the point of entry, and 11 were confirmed in the community while in mandatory self-quarantine after arrival. 13 were Korean nationals and 6 foreign nationals.
○ The (presumed) location of infection acquisition of the 19 new imported cases are: Americas (4) (US 3, Ecuador 1), Africa (4) (Morocco 1, Nigeria 1, Sudan 1, Senegal 1), and Asia excluding China (11) (Uzbekistan 8, Indonesia 1, Saudi Arabia 1, Afghanistan 1).
