As of 0:00, 8 September 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 21,432 (including 2,921 imported cases), of which 16,636 cases have been discharged from isolation. There are 120 new local cases, 16 new imported cases, and 5 new deaths.

Major local clusters as of 12:00 today (8 September):

Related to Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul City, 4 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 1,167 cases have been confirmed.

- 1,081 cases total in capital area (Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi)

- 86 cases total in other areas

 

Related to August 15 Seoul rallies, 7 additional cases were confirmed from investigation. In total, 539 cases have been confirmed.

- Rally related (212), further transmissions (276), police (8), under investigation (43)

- 263 cases total in capital area (Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi)

- 276 cases total in other areas

 

Related to BF Mobile Telemarketing Call center in Gangdong-gu, Seoul City, 4 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 22 cases have been confirmed. Investigation is underway.

 

Related to Nichiren Shoshu Seoul Mission (religious facility), first case was confirmed on 5 September and 11 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 12 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to Coupang Songpa 2 Camp in Songpa-gu, Seoul City, 4 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 10 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to Susaek Catholic Church in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul City, first case was confirmed on 6 September and 3 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 4 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to Yeji Kindergarten in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi Province, first case was confirmed on 5 September and 4 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 8 cases have been confirmed.

- Index case’s family (4 including kindergarten child) tutor (1), kindergarten children (2) kindergarten child’s family (1)

 

Related to an online hiking group in the greater capital area, 5 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 10 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to health supplement business seminar (Unicity), first case was confirmed on 1 September and 9 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. Epidemiological link to another cluster related to Wellbeing Sauna in Daejeon City has been found. In total, 18 cases have been confirmed.

- Health supplement business seminar related (10): Participants 6, family/friends 4

- Wellbeing Sauna related (8): Staff 3, visitors 2, family 3

- 2 of the staff members of Wellbeing Sauna attended Unicity business seminar on 25 August

 

Imported cases as of 0:00, 8 September:

16 new imported cases

- 4 confirmed at the point of entry and 12 were confirmed in the community while in mandatory self-quarantine after arrival

- 8 Korean nationals and 8 foreign nationals

Infection acquisition location (presumed):

- Asia excluding China: India 4, Indonesia 3, Uzbekistan 1, Kyrgyzstan 1, Russia 1, Qatar 1

- Europe: Turkey 4

- Africa: Senegal 1

 

 

 

Severe/critical cases and deaths:

151 severe/critical cases

341 deaths total (cumulative)

- 330 (96.8%) had underlying medical condition(s) such as hypertension or diabetes

- 40 deaths since August: including 11 related to religious gatherings, 5 contacts of confirmed cases, 4 related to hospitals and care facilities, 6 other clusters, 14 uncategorized

 

Because of the higher risk of developing severe symptoms if infected, the elderly are advised to avoid contact with other people as much as possible, wear a mask whenever going out, and get medical care and test as soon as possible if feeling sick.

 

A second batch of serums have been collected for antibody titer survey.

 

Remdesivir has been supplied to 274 patients in 49 hospitals.

 

Examples of safety concerns reported through Safety e-Report Sinmungo:

A large crowd forming for 1-2 hours at grocery store due to raffle event

 

Social Distancing Level 2 for the whole nation has been extended to 20 September. The Enhanced Social Distancing Level 2 for the greater capital area has been extended to 13 September.

 

Precautions related to the types of facilities that recently had transmissions to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Religious facilities:

- No in-person events including regular worship service

- No in-person social gathering, events, or eating together

Healthcare facilities and care facilities commonly used by the elderly:

- Strict entry/exit control

- Staff of such facilities should try to avoid social gatherings or visiting publicly used facilities

- If a resident/patient shows symptoms, help them to get tested as soon as possible

- Mask wearing and other prevention measures

Door-to-door sales / multilevel marketing / investment firms:

- The middle aged and elderly are advised to avoid business seminars or information sessions related to door-to-door sales, real estate investment, virtual currency, or health supplement businesses.

Publicly used facilities (including restaurants and cafes):

- Disinfect and ventilate frequently

- Ensure all staff and visitors follow infection prevention guidelines including mask wearing

 


Public Guidance for Level 2 Social Distancing

Do not go to work if feeling sick

- Call KCDC call center by dialing 1339 or contact local public health center or screening clinic

Postpone or cancel non-essential outings, social gatherings, events, or travel

- Essential travel includes getting medical care, buying necessities, or to going to work

- At restaurants or cafes, order takeout rather than dining in

- Home training or outdoor exercising is recommended in place of going to gyms

- For social activities, utilize PC or smartphones to have online meetings

- Use online shopping over physical stores

If going out, wear mask and follow infection prevention guidelines

- Do not visit crowded, confined, or close-contact places with poor ventilation

- Wear mask indoors as well as outdoors whenever 2m distancing can’t be maintained

- Ensure mask covers mouth and nose completely and do not touch mask

- Keep mask on except to drink or eat

- Maintain physical distance from other people (2m recommended, 1m minimum)

- No droplet-producing activities such as shouting, singing out loud, or chanting

- No physical contact with others such as handshakes or hugs

Mask should cover mouth and nose completely

Do not touch mask surface with hands

Keep mask on at all times except while eating or drinking

Guidance for managers and staff of facilities used by the elderly

Do not visit publicly used facilities such as cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs, singing rooms, and PC cafes

Cancel or postpone travel plans or social gatherings

Do not go to work if having suspected symptoms and get tested

Carefully follow infection prevention guidelines including mask wearing and hand washing while at work

Restrict access of outsiders

Disinfect frequently touched surfaces often

Ventilate often including while air conditioner is on

If an inpatient or resident shows fever, cough, or other suspected symptoms, help them to get tested as soon as possible
