As of 0:00, 3 September 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 20,644 (including 2,858 imported cases), of which 15,529 cases have been discharged from isolation. There are 188 new local cases, 7 new imported cases, and 3 new deaths.

Major local clusters as of 12:00 today (3 September):

Related to Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul City, 22 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 1,139 cases have been confirmed.

- 1,060 cases total in capital area (Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi)

- 79 cases total in other areas (Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam)

- To date, 191 confirmed cases of further transmissions from Sarang Jeil Church have been found related to 27 venues. Investigation is underway.

 

Related to August 15 Seoul rallies, 21 additional cases were confirmed from investigation. In total, 462 cases have been confirmed.

- Rally related (183), further transmissions (186), police (8), under investigation (85)

- 241 cases total in capital area (Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi)

- 221 cases total in other areas (Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, Ulsan, Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam)

- To date, 118 confirmed cases of further transmissions from August 15 rallies have been found related to 11 venues. Investigation is underway.

 

Related to Jinheung Global in Dongjak-gu, Seoul City, 24 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 34 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to an aviation security company in Gangseo-gu, Seoul City, first case was confirmed on 30 August and 9 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 10 cases have been confirmed. Investigation is underway.

 

Related to an education facility for the disabled, first case was confirmed on 29 August and 7 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 8 cases have been confirmed. Investigation is underway.

 

Related to Incheon Seo-gu Office, 3 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 17 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to Nanum Nuriteo in Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi Province, 3 additional cases were confirmed while under self-quarantine. In total, 20 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to BHC Sinheung Sujin Stations Branch in Gyeonggi Province, first case was confirmed on 1 September and 5 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 6 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to Lee N Lee Golf Course in Gyeonggi Province, first case was confirmed on 1 September and 3 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 4 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to a kimchi factory in Cheongyang-gun, Chungnam Province, first case was confirmed on 2 September and 18 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 19 cases have been confirmed. Investigation is underway.

 

Related to Full Gospel Daejeon Woori Church in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon City, 4 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 18 cases have been confirmed. Investigation is underway.

 

Related to a health supplement group gathering in Daegu City, first case was confirmed on 30 August and 14 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 15 cases have been confirmed.

 

Related to officetel related to real estate auction in Yeonje-gu, Busan City, first case was confirmed on 31 August and 4 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 5 cases have been confirmed.

 

KCDC encourages active testing to stop further spread of the virus.

Daily tests performed:

- 19,033 tests performed last two weeks (21 August 3 September) (increase by 9,919 from the previous two week period)

- The figures are affected by the number of contacts found through epidemiological investigation

- In general, fewer tests are performed on weekends when many private hospitals are closed

 

Imported cases as of 0:00, 3 September:

7 new imported cases

- 3 confirmed at the point of entry and 4 were confirmed in the community while in mandatory self-quarantine after arrival

- 3 Korean nationals and 4 foreign nationals

Infection acquisition location (presumed):

- Asia excluding China: Philippines 1, Uzbekistan 1

- Europe: Turkey 1

- Americas: US 3

- Africa: Algeria 1

 

Since 3 August, ships and vessels that departed from Russia or countries subject to strengthened infectious disease control with sailors who boarded for crew rotation are required to submit proof of negative PCR test to enter Korean seaport.

For crew members who submitted negative test result but tests positive upon entry, the test result is verified through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Submitting falsified test results will be punishable in accordance with Article 39 of the Quarantine Act starting 8 September.

 

421 more people (2,117 total) have signed up to donate their plasma for COVID-19 plasma therapy development.

 

Severe/critical cases and deaths:

329 deaths total (cumulative)

- 320 (97.3%) had underlying medical condition(s) such as hypertension or diabetes

Case fatality rate by age group:

- 20.07% for ages 80+

- 6.36% for ages 70-79

- 1.36% for ages 60-69

- 0.15% for ages 50-59

154 current severe/critical cases as of today:

- 37 (24%) are aged 80 or above

- 63 (41%) are aged 70-79

- 31 (20%) are aged 60-69

- 14 (9%) are aged 50-59

- 9 (6%) are aged 40-49

 

KCDC asks staff and managers of facilities that are frequently used by elderly population to take particular precaution to prevent the virus from entering the facility.


Guidance for managers and staff of facilities used by the elderly

 

Do not visit publicly used facilities such as cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs, singing rooms, and PC cafes

   ▴Cancel or postpone travel plans or social gatherings

   ▴Do not go to work if having suspected symptoms and get tested

Carefully follow infection prevention guidelines including mask wearing and hand washing while at work

Restrict access of outsiders

Disinfect frequently touched surfaces often

Ventilate often including while air conditioner is on

If an inpatient or resident shows fever, cough, or other suspected symptoms, help them to get tested as soon as possible



KCDC asks the public for continued participation in Social Distancing Level 2 guidelines.


Public Guidance for Level 2 Social Distancing

Do not go to work if feeling sick

- Call KCDC call center by dialing 1339 or contact local public health center or screening clinic

Postpone or cancel non-essential outings, social gatherings, events, or travel

- Essential travel includes getting medical care, buying necessities, or to going to work

- At restaurants or cafes, order takeout rather than dining in

- Home training or outdoor exercising is recommended in place of going to gyms

- For social activities, utilize PC or smartphones to have online meetings

- Use online shopping over physical stores

If going out, wear mask and follow infection prevention guidelines

- Do not visit crowded, confined, or close-contact places with poor ventilation

- Wear mask indoors as well as outdoors whenever 2m distancing can’t be maintained

- Ensure mask covers mouth and nose completely and do not touch mask

- Keep mask on except to drink or eat

- Maintain physical distance from other people (2m recommended, 1m minimum)

- No droplet-producing activities such as shouting, singing out loud, or chanting

- No physical contact with others such as handshakes or hugs

    ▴Mask should cover mouth and nose completely

    ▴Do not touch mask surface with hands

    ▴Keep mask on at all times except while eating or drinking
