Updates on COVID-19 in Republic of Korea

□ As of 0:00, 13 September 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 22,176 (including 3,003 imported cases), of which 18,226 cases have been discharged from isolation. There are 99 new local cases, 22 new imported cases, and 3 new deaths.

□ Major local clusters as of 12:00 today (13 September):

○ Related to August 15 Seoul rallies, 12 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 577 cases have been confirmed.
- Rally related (212), further transmissions (313), police (8), under investigation (44)
- 267 cases total in capital area (Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi)
- 310 cases total in other areas
○ Related to Severance Hospital in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul City, 6 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 29 cases have been confirmed.
○ Related to an online hiking group in the greater capital area, 3 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 38 cases have been confirmed.
○ Related to TR Innovation / Sara Queen (door-to-door sales business), 1 additional case was confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 14 cases have been confirmed.
○ Related to health supplement business seminar in Daejeon City, 1 additional case was confirmed. In total, 55 cases have been confirmed.
- Health supplement seminar (18), Gyeryong Restaurant (22), Wellbeing Sauna (8), forex trading seminar (8)
○ Related to Yeonje-gu Officetel (real estate auction) in Busan, it has been reported that the cluster has some degree of linkage between the Hyundai Heavy Industry and the real estate community cases as the result of the epidemiological investigation. In total, 40 cases have been confirmed.
○ Related to Chilgok-gun Sanyangsam business consultation in Gyeongbuk province, 5 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 13 cases have been confirmed.
○ Related to Seomgim elderly day care center in Geumsan-gun, Choongnam province, 1 additional case was confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 11 cases have been confirmed.
□ Imported cases as of 0:00, 13 September:
○ 22 new imported cases
- 7 confirmed at the point of entry and 15 were confirmed in the community while in mandatory self-quarantine after arrival
- 9 Korean nationals and 13 foreign nationals
○ Infection acquisition location (presumed):

□ Because of the higher risk of developing severe symptoms if infected, particular caution is advised for the elderly population and facilities commonly used by the elderly.
○ Religious facilities:
- No in-person events including regular worship service
- No in-person social gathering, events, or eating together
○ Door-to-door sales / multilevel marketing / investment firms / health supplement sales businesses:
- The middle aged and elderly are advised to avoid business seminars or information sessions related to door-to-door sales, real estate investment, virtual currency, or health supplement businesses.
○ Healthcare facilities and care facilities commonly used by the elderly:
- Strict entry/exit control
- Staff of such facilities should try to avoid social gatherings or visiting publicly used facilities
- If a resident/patient shows symptoms, help them to get tested as soon as possible
- Mask wearing and other prevention measures
○ General guidance:
- Stay home as much as possible and avoid contact with others
- Wear mask if going out
- Visit screening clinic to get treated/tested immediately if feeling sick
□ KCDA stressed the importance of public participation in containing the COVID-19 outbreak and requested the public for continued support of and participation in social distancing guidelines.
Public Guidance for Level 2 Social Distancing
➀ Do not go to work if feeling sick
- Call KCDA call center by dialing 1339 or contact local public health center or screening clinic
➁ Postpone or cancel non-essential outings, social gatherings, events, or travel
- Essential travel includes getting medical care, buying necessities, or to going to work
- At restaurants or cafes, order takeout rather than dining in
- Home training or outdoor exercising is recommended in place of going to gyms
- For social activities, utilize PC or smartphones to have online meetings
- Use online shopping over physical stores
➂ If going out, wear mask and follow infection prevention guidelines
- Do not visit crowded, confined, or close-contact places with poor ventilation
- Wear mask indoors as well as outdoors whenever 2m distancing can’t be maintained
- Ensure mask covers mouth and nose completely and do not touch mask
- Keep mask on except to drink or eat
- Maintain physical distance from other people (2m recommended, 1m minimum)
- No droplet-producing activities such as shouting, singing out loud, or chanting
- No physical contact with others such as handshakes or hugs
Guidance on proper mask wearing
▴Wear mask when going out
▴Mask should cover mouth and nose completely
▴Do not touch mask surface with hands
▴Keep mask on at all times except while eating or drinking
Guidance for managers and staff of facilities used by the elderly
▴Do not visit publicly used facilities such as cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs, singing rooms, and PC cafes
▴Cancel or postpone travel plans or social gatherings
▴Do not go to work if having suspected symptoms and get tested
▴Carefully follow infection prevention guidelines including mask wearing and hand washing while at work
▴Restrict access of outsiders
▴Disinfect frequently touched surfaces often
▴Ventilate often including while air conditioner is on
▴If an inpatient or resident shows fever, cough, or other suspected symptoms, help them to get tested as soon as possible
