Social Distancing Level 1.5 or higher nationwide

December 1, 2020

Social Distancing Level 1.5 is applied nationwide (other than the Seoul Metropolitan Area, which will remain at Level 2) from 0:00 of December 1 to 24:00 of December 14. Local governments may apply a higher level based on the local situation. Some Level 2 measures, such as prohibition of food consumption inside saunas, will be applied to areas at Level 1.5.

Effective Tuesday, December 1, stronger infectious disease control measures will be implemented in the Seoul Metropolitan Area to the types of facilities that are high risk or recently had infection clusters as well as high-risk activities that are associated with young people.

The stronger measures include suspension of operation of saunas, gathering ban on high-intensity indoor group exercise facilities, ban on music lessons involving wind instrument or singing in hagwon, tutoring classes, or cultural centers, and suspension of operation of shared convenience facilities within apartment or townhouse complexes (e.g. gyms, sauna, cafe, study rooms).

End-of-the-year parties or events hosted by hotels, party rooms, guesthouses, and other accommodation facilities are prohibited. Inter-departmental discussion is underway regarding private end-of-the-year parties. KDCA recommended and requested that people in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi) refrain from making social plans and especially cancel private social gatherings such as work dinners, class reunions, and club meetings.
