HIV/AIDS notifications in Korea, 2018

The number of notified new HIV infection cases has increased to 1,206 in 2018. Among them, male accounted for 1,100 cases (91.2%). The age group 20-29 years accounted for the highest percentage of cases (32.8%), followed by 30-39 years (27.2%), and 40-49 years (17.5%). HIV screening sites were 59.4% in hospitals and 31.7% in public health centers. The rate for new patients in HIV infection tests to diagnose the cause of the disease in the medical institution is found to be 32.2% (292 patients), with the most common reason. And all patients responded with the pathway of sexually transmitted infection. The Republic of Korea has launched "Early detection, Treatment through a continuum of care, Improved quality of life" strategy to achieve the global goal, in cooperation with central, local governments and the private sector. The government plans to intensify HIV/AIDS prevention and management with a strengthened strategy of ‘Ending AIDS Epidemic by 2030.’
