Shedding Light on Hypertension’s Blind Spot
Sohn Il Suk, Pyun Wook Bum
The Korean Society of Hypertension
33% of the world’s adults are hypertensive. In South Korea, 26.9% of all adults were diagnosed with hypertension in 2017. However, globally and locally in South Korea, it is estimated that one-third of all sufferers are unaware of the presence of hypertension. More specifically, individuals in their thirties and forties have the lowest rates of awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension. In other words, these individuals have a blind spot regarding hypertension. For example, they tend to have unhealthy habits, irregular diets and do not get regular exercise. In this report, we briefly discuss the underlying problems and the current status of hypertensives in their thirties and forties.
