Lunar New Year, Keep on the prevention of infection

with novel coronavirus

 

 

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(KCDC) alerts to keep on the prevention of infection with novel coronavirus(2019-cNoV) as the number of Chinese visitors are increased and moving around the country during Lunar New Year

 

As of 09:00, Jan 23 2020, 448 cases have been confirmed globally including 440 cases from China, and 8 cases from US, Macao, and Thailand.

 

World Health Organization(WHO) held WHO emergency committee(Seoul time, 23:00, Jan 22) with related to novel coronavirus, it could not meet up conclusion and decided to reconvene an additional meeting today.

 

KCDC Director Jeong Eun-kyeong said that we will pay attention to the results of the WHO decision such as PHEIC(Public Health Emergency of International Concern), we will maintain the current response system and fully committee to response.

 

Accordingly, the epidemic intelligence service(EIS) officer from KCDC is dispatched to China today to identify the local situation and strengthen the protection of citizens.

 

KCDC and 17 Health and environmental research institutes have expanded the rapid diagnosis test in 24 hours at national-wide from Jan 24th 2020. In preparation for the spreading, private clinics and medical centers will set up the diagnosis test system till the beginning of February.

· Keep out of any contact with poultry or wild animals

· Keep out of any contact with people who are unwell or showing respiratory symptoms such as fevers and coughs

· Fill out the Health Questionnaire upon arrival, and report to quarantine immediately if you develop a fever and any respiratory symptoms

  (e.g. coughs, difficulty in breathing)

· If you develop a fever and respiratory symptoms within 14 days of your returning to Korea, please call the KCDC Call center at 1339
