Enhanced the 2019-nCoV quarantine guideline in Republic of Korea

 

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) has enhanced the 2019-nCoV quarantine guideline. From 4 February 2020, those who has ‘routine contacts’ with confirmed cases regardless of the times requires a mandatory period of 14 days of self-quarantine.

 

- So far, the government classified to ‘close contact’ with the confirmed case as self-quarantined ,and monitored only those who were in the vicinity of the cases through local public health centers.

 

- Those who contact within 2 meters during clinical stage of contacts, and those in the same room who coughed without wearing a mask in a closed room would be determined as ‘contacts’ by the epidemic intelligence officer.


- Epidemiological investigation will be conducted on 1 day before onset of symptom considering to the subclinical infectious stage.

 

- Local government officials are in charge of managing the people who are self-quarantine as 1:1 system. Central government will provide the proper information of contacts into local government so that they can take proactive action and cooperation.

 

As of 3 February, 2020, there have been 490 PUIs with 15 confirmed cases, 414 cases released after tested negative, and 61 cases currently being tested. The confirmed cases are overall in stable condition.

Of the 15 confirmed cases with 2019-nCoV, the average age of the cases is 42.9, including 10 male and 5 female. It is average 6 days from onset of symptom to diagnosis.

* 9 cases imported from China, 1 case imported from Japan, and 5 cases of secondary infections.

 

The 14th case, a 40-year-old Chinese female, is a family member of 12th case. The case is currently being isolated at the national designated isolation hospital.

 

- The case visited medical center and supermarket with 12th case, and more epidemiological investigation is on-going.

 

The 15th case, a 43-year-old Korean male, has 12 contacts who are currently being self-isolated. There is common confirmation that all 4 cases (15th, 3th, 7th ,8th) has visited or worked at clothing store in Wuhan city.

 

According to the result of epidemiological investigation of 333 Korean nationals evacuees from Wuhan through the charted flight on 1 February, 7 people who has symptom got tested negative. Excluding the 1 case, the 701 evacuees are currently being isolated at the national designated isolation hospital. All evacuees will follow-up after 14 days isolation.
