The updates(Feb. 7) on the novel Coronavirus(2019-nCoV)

in Republic of Korea

 

 

As of 7 February, 2020, there has been 1130 Patient Under Investigation(PUIs) with 24 confirmed cases, 842 cases already released after tested negative, and 264 cases currently being tested. The contacts of the confirmed cases are 1,368 in total, 9 of which were confirmed.

About the confirmed cases,

 

- The 19th Case, a 36-year-old Korean male have 52 contacts of confirmed case, and contacts of cases are in isolation. From 1 day before onset of symptom till isolation, he visited restaurant, shopping mall, and hotel. Additional investigation is still ongoing

 

- The 20th case, a 41-year-old Korean female, is a family member of the 15th case. She has 15 contacts of confirmed case which are same route as 15th case from 1 day before onset of symptom till isolation. No additional contacts are identified.

 

- The 21th case, a 59-year-old Korean female, is a contact of the 6th case. She has 7 contacts of confirmed case under isolation. From 1 day before onset of symptom till isolation, she visited church. Additional investigation is still ongoing.

 

- The 22nd case, a 46-year-old Korean male, is a family member of the 16th case. No symptom has been identified so far, and 1 contact of case tested negative.

 

- The 23rd case, a 58-year-old Chinese female, visited Korea on 23 January. As she departed from Wuhan, she was being monitored. Onset of symptom occur on 2 February. From 1 day before onset of symptom, she visited department store, shopping mall. Additional investigation is still ongoing.

KCDC took the additional announcement that updates the response guideline, including the expansion of case definition, effective of 7 February.

 

The local transmission is currently occurring in China, and there is limited information of widespread sustained community transmission in other countries. So KCDC asked to medical staff to consider risk factor, exposure, clinical signs with travel history.
