KDCA Decides Downgrade of COVID-19 Alert Level Soon As WHO Lifts PHEIC


Osong, 6rd May 2023 The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on 5th May 2023 that COVID-19 is now an established and ongoing health issue which longer constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).


KDCA Commissioner Youngmee Jee said: “We will have a comprehensive review of the result of the 15th meeting of the IHR Emergency Committee, global COVID-19 situations, South Korea’s capabilities for COVID-19 control and prevention and medical response, and relevant policies of major countries. After that, we will discuss the downgrade of the current COVID-19 alert level at the experts advisory meeting and the crisis evaluation meeting. And then, we will make a quick decision on the direction of revising down the alert level.”
