<Notice on March 17>
□ The number of newborns diagnosed with rotavirus infections as of 4:00 p.m. on March 17 amounts to 18 in total.

- 13 as of 5:00 p.m. on the 16th
- 2 after 5:00 p.m. on the 16th (additional)
- 3 as of 4:00 p.m. on the 17th (additional)
*3 added through examination on 14 newborns at postpartum care centers

□ The test results of all 14 mothers were found to be negative.

□ Of the three additionally diagnosed on the 17th, two had no symptoms and one developed diarrhea, and all were isolated. A follow-up examination was conducted on the newborn at the postpartum care center.

○ Location: MizMedi Hospital (295, Gangseo-ro, Gangseo-gu)
○ Details
- Mar. 14 (Tue.): 7 of 29 newborns at MizMedi Hospital were diagnosed with rotavirus infections.
- Mar. 15 (Wed.): Parents of a newborn reported to the Gangseo-gu Public Health Center.

□ Epidemiological Survey Status
○ Epidemiological survey currently being conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan City Government and the Gangseo-gu Public Health Center
- Human specimens (extracted from mothers and medical staff working at the newborn unit through rectal smears and from feces on diapers of the newborns)
- Environmental specimens (smear of bedding and tops of liquid formula containers )
- Diagnosed newborns were put in isolation at the newborn unit of MizMedi Hospital for treatment.

□ Future Plan
○ Identify status of the affiliated postpartum care center and investigation of additional patients
○ Closure of the newborn unit in order to prevent the spread of disease and for disinfection

□ Situation in the Sentinel Rotavirus Surveillance Network in ROK based in selected referral 103 hospitals○ The number of patients diagnosed with rotavirus infections in week 10 (Mar. 5 - 11, 2017) amounted to 102 in total, which increased by approx. 2.8 times from 37 in Week 1 (Jan. 1 - 7, 2017).
