KDCA Unveils Korea’s First National Archive for Disease Disaster Response Data (SAVE, diSease disAster archiVE)

- SAVE provides access to disease disaster information produced by the government and related agencies all in one place.

- Provides user-centered customized services such as a timeline service and issue archiving.

Osong, 5 June 2025 ━ The National Institute of Health (NIH) of Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) has launched Korea’s first-ever disease disaster archive website (SAVE, diSease disAster archiVE)*, which systematically collects, organizes and preserves information related to disease disaster.

* Available on the National Center for Medical Information and Knowledge (NCMIK) website: library.nih.go.kr/save

In the event of disease disasters, vast amounts of information are generated in real-time from central government organizations, local governments, and relevant foreign organizations. However, if not preserved in a timely manner, there is a risk of information to be disappeared. Therefore, the NIH has systematically collected and organized over 20,000 related documents, such as press releases and guidelines, focusing on four major infectious diseases for which the Central Disease Control Headquarters was established and operated (see Attachment 2 for details).

* (In reverse chronological order) COVID-19, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Influenza A (H1N1), Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)

In particular, this archive service allows users to search for materials accurately and quickly by narrowing down the scope of the search criteria such as disease title, producing agency name, and document type. The archive also provides distinctive user-centered services, including a timeline service showing the disease disaster response process in time order and an issue archiving service focusing on specific terms and issues that emerged during the pandemic.

Park, Hyun-Young, Director General of the National Institute of Health stated, “Going forward, we plan to gradually expand the collection of materials—such as research reports, academic papers, and patents which various stakeholders collaborated to respond to disease disasters like COVID-19—through integration with the NCMIK. I hope this archive contributes to policy-making and the development of effective research strategies.”

* The National Center for Medical Information and Knowledge (NCMIK) is a national medical library that collects, processes, preserves, and shares medical science resources and healthcare research outcomes at home and abroad.
