Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease by a bacterium, Mycobaterium tuberculosis that is transmitted through air from one to another. TB patients are most likely to spread it to persons they spend time together. Since 2013, according to the National Tuberculosis Control Program, contact investigations of infectious tuberculosis (TB) have been enhanced for congregate settings such as educational facilities, clinics/hospitals, military/police units, social welfare facilities, correctional facilities, and workplaces. In 2017, a total of 3,759 contact investigations in congregate settings were conducted. A total of 141,164 contacts were identified, and 206 TB cases were found. Of 60,104 contacts who were tested for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), 10,884 persons were identified as LTBI. In conclusion, contact investigation played an important role of early detection and prevention of tuberculosis.
