Although preventable, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of morbidity, mortality, and increased health care costs in the Republic of Korea. The increased prevalence of risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia among young adult men was reported in the 2016 National Health and Nutrition Survey by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These risk factors arise from inadequate implementation of lifestyle modifications that include smoking cessation, exercise, and a healthy diet. Published Korean health data reinforce the need for a healthy lifestyle and control of risk factors, with a focus on elevated blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose, to prevent adverse cardiovascular outcomes, especially in busy adults. In this article, we advocate nationwide program to maintain health and improve cardiovascular outcomes.
