Dr. Michelle McConnell, Regional Director for the US CDC’s Regional Office for East Asia and the Pacific, visited the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) on April 3, 2024, to explore  potential  collaboration for global health security between the two agencies.

With the opening of the new US CDC’s Regional Office, the two agencies discussed collaborative tasks such as forecasting and data analysis, an integrated surveillance system for infectious diseases, and climate health policy. Both agencies agreed to hold regular meetings to facilitate the exchange of relevant information.

In particular, they discussed the renewal of the MOU with the US CDC later this year, as well as regular activities between the two agencies (KDCA-US CDC).

Commissioner Jee expressed optimism that the establishment of the new US CDC regional office would bolster cooperation between the KDCA an the US CDC, and further enhance Korea- the U.S. collaboration in health security.
