KDCA Commissioner Dr. Youngmee Jee hosted a policy dialogue on March 6, the third day of the 1st APEC Health Working Group (HWG) meeting, which took place from March 4 to 6 at the Lahan Select Hotel in Gyeongju. The dialogue, held under the theme "Future Pandemic Preparedness and Response," brought together APEC member economies, international organizations, and private-sector experts to share insights and discuss strategies for strengthening preparedness and response.
Dr. Jee chaired two key sessions: Strengthening Pandemic Preparedness and Response and Enhancing the Capacity of National Public Health Agencies (NPHAs). She led discussions during which WHO representatives and APEC member economies shared their experiences in crisis response and policy implementation. Participants also explored opportunities for collaboration to further improve pandemic response efforts.
During the policy dialogue, Dr. Jee emphasized the importance of international cooperation in developing more effective preparedness and response strategies. The upcoming APEC follow-up meetings will continue in-depth discussions on One Health strategies to address emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
