Background and objective:
Students during adolescence are vulnerable to various forms of stress, which can lead to negative effects on mental health conditions. Physical activity has been shown to reduce stress. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between physical education classes which can be called representative physical activity of the secondary school students and stress perception.

Methods:
This study used cross-sectional data included 75,066 (male: 39,612 and female: 35,454; 97.6% response rate) middle and high school students from Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYRBWS, 2009). Logistic regression performed to analyze the association between physical education classes and stress perception.

Results:
In both male and female students, there was a significant inverse graded dose-response relationship between physical education classes and stress perception (p<0.001). During the last 7 days, the odds ratios(95% confidence interval) for male students in once, twice, and more than thrice physical education class participation, as compared to the nonparticipation, were 0.85(0.77-0.93), 0.71(0.65-0.78), and 0.62(0.56-0.68), respectively. In the case of female students, OR values were 0.95(0.87-1.05), 0.82(0.75-0.90), and 0.72(0.65-0.80), respectively.

Conclusion:
Our results show a dose-response relationship between physical education class frequency and stress perception. Therefore, participating in regular physical education class may lead to reduce stress perception among Korean adolescents.
