주요내용

Background: The alcohol related risk taking behavior in adolescents are strong positive relations with exposure on injury, violence and crime etc.
Objectives: The objective of this study is to identify the patterns of injury related risk taking behaviors due to alcohol in high school students, Korea.
Underlying values and principles: Many injured patients at emergency department are associated with alcohol and alcohol drinking is more common among the injured, particularly. In Korea, the socioeconomic impact of alcohol has been enormous because of traditional permissive attitudes toward alcohol. Adolescent drinking is rising recently, so we need to presume the increase of alcohol-related risk taking behavior and injuries in this population.
Knowledge base/ Evidence base: Understanding of characteristics of adolescent alcohol-related risk tatking behavior and injuries could help establish the policy of alcohol prevention in adolescents.
Context of intervention/project/work: The data using this researchis came from the cross- sectional survey through web based by students themselves in 2007.
Methods: The data for analysis is from the Korean youth risk behavior-web based survey in 2007. The KYRBWS is school-based national surveys of representative samples of middle school and high school students in korea. Basically, The descriptive analysis using frequency, chi square test, correlation, logistic regression were conducted using SPSS 14.0 package.
Results and Conclusions:
Results : The students who had experience of alcohol drink are higher percentage on suicide attempt than non drinkers. The percentage of students who had alcohol drink, and percentage of heavy drunken are higher in male, higher grade and higher in vocational high school students(p<0.001). Among drinker, the experience of motorcycle drive after drunken and the experience of quarrel after drunken are statistically higher in male, and vocational high school students, too. But the experience of education for alcohol prevention is lower in vocational high school students(p<0.05).
Discussion and conclusion : The pattern of injury risk taking behavior due to injury varies by gender, grade, and type of high school. The more tailored interventions which consider these characteristics need to high school students and should strengthen to educate for alcohol prevention in early stage.
