주요내용

Objective: Based on the 5th Korean Youth Health Risk Behavior On-line Survey from 2009, the research intends to analyze the factors related to allergy diseases for adolescent in South Korea. In addition, it aims to make use of the research data for the prevention and the management of allergy diseases.
Method: The data sources used in this very research were from the results of Korean Youth Health Risk Behavior On-line Survey from 2009 and at the same time it was executed as a self-administered on-line survey subject to 75,066 adolescent students. In this research, observations were made by concentrating on the variables such as characteristics of sociology of population psychology, characteristics of health behavior, and allergy diseases. The data analysis was done by using SPSS version 18.0K, which allowed for an execution of a frequency analysis, cross-tabulation analysis, and logistic regression analysis. The level of significance was defined at P value < 0.05.
Results:
1. The subjects were composed of 52.8% of male students and 47.2% of female students where 51.2% of the total students were junior high school students and 48.8% of high school students.
2. In regards to those who have been diagnosed of atopic dermatitis, 16.0% were male students, and 21.4% were female students. For those who have diagnosed with asthma were 8.8% male students and 7.1% female students. Also, for those who have been diagnosed of allergy rhinitis, 26.8% were male students, and 26.7% were female students.
3. According to the logistic regression analysis, female students showed a higher result compared to male students in respect to the experiences with atopic dermatitis, where high school students were higher than junior high school students and big cities and small to medium sized cities were higher than rural areas. In addition, along with an increase in the economic level it tended to show higher probability of atopic dermatitis experiences. For the educational background of students' mothers, secondary school graduation and higher or equal to undergraduate graduation were higher than those with less than junior high school education. Those groups who had experiences with cigarette and those who had higher weight presented a higher probability for atopic dermatitis experiences. Also, as the stress level increased and with an insufficient restoration level of tiredness from lack of sleeping, the experiences with atopic dermatitis increased, and the group that have not eaten breakfast showed more experiences with atopic dermatitis. 4. In regards to an experience of the asthma diagnosis, females were higher than males and high school students were higher than junior high school students according to the multiple logistic regression analysis. In case a student had a smoking experience, an experience with the asthma diagnosis increased in case the student had acquired the nutrition education, as well as for a higher weight, a higher stress level, and an insufficient restoration level of tiredness from lack of sleeping.
5. In regards to an allergy rhinitis, male students were higher than female students and high school students were higher than junior high school students according to the multiple logistic regression analysis. In addition, the experiences with allergy diagnosis were higher within big cities and small to medium sized cities relative to rural areas. Along with a higher educational background of students' mothers, the experiences with allergy rhinitis were higher. In case a student had an experience with alcohol consumption, and in case a student ate a breakfast, the experiences with allergy rhinitis diagnosis were higher as well. With a high level of stress, and with an insufficient restoration level of tiredness from lack of sleeping, the experiences with allegy diagnosis were higher.
6. Regarding the allergy diseases, an increase in the stress level increased the probability of atopic dermatitis by 1.09 times, asthma by 1.15 times, and allergy rhinitis by 1.14 times. In addition, an insufficient restoration level of tiredness from lack of sleep increased the probability of atopic dermatitis by 1.02 times, asthma by 1.05 times, and rhinitis by 1.05 times.
Conclusion: From the above-mentioned results, it is required to pursue a further research on the measure of managing the common factors that cause allergy diseases, which include 'stress' and 'restoration level of tiredness from lack of sleep.’ Correspondingly, it is suggested that the increasing rate of allergy diseases to be minimized and reduced as well as to further vitalize the a preventive education for a healthy growth of an adolescent in addition to the reinforcement of networks such as promotion, family, school, health center, and public health cetners.
