This workshop aims to provide an opportunity for countries in Western Pacific Region to strengthen their technical capabilities, thereby establishing and implementing effective NCD prevention and control strategies. Korea will share its insights in developing advanced national health survey systems such as Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), and the Community Health Survey (CHS), established over the last two decades, and experiences in implementing data-driven health policies.
On the first day, participating countries will share current trends and policy directions of NCD prevention and control, and Korea will introduce its monitoring, and surveillance systems, along with policy outcomes. Singapore will share best practices in establishing data-based health policies as a good example of NCD management.
In addition, KDCA Commissioner and Director of the Division of Healthy Environments and Populations at WPRO will hold a bilateral meeting to discuss future directions for NCD data utilization and policy implementation in Western Pacific Region, and explore ways to further strengthen collaboration between KDCA and WHO.
On the second day, sessions will focus on:
- Korea’s operational systems such as KNHANES, and CHS
- Survey findings and outcomes
- Hypertension and diabetes registration and management program
- Big data analysis and its application in infectious disease control
Following these presentations, expert discussion will take place, along with field visits to the KNHANES mobile examination centers (MECs), and hypertension and diabetes registration and management centers.
On the last day, each participating Member State will present their NCD policy priorities and implementation plans based on theory and field experiences, followed by an evaluation session and a final discussion.
KDCA Commissioner Dr. Seung-kwan Lim stated, “As the importance of NCD prevention and control continues to grow globally, establishing systematic monitoring and surveillance system is crucial to developing evidence-based health policies.”
He also added, “This NCD workshop will serve as a meaningful platform for KDCA and WHO to share Korea’s advanced NCD monitoring and surveillance systems and achievements with seven Member States. KDCA remains firmly committed to strengthening collaboration and providing technical support to Western Pacific countries through its accumulated experience and expertise.”
